Let’s Begin….

How to Look Your Best on Camera

I believe the key to stunning photos is confidence—not so much that you seem arrogant or unapproachable, but just enough to look like you’ve received a lovely compliment from someone you’ve just met.

Step 1. Embrace Confidence & Natural Beauty

  • Take a Breath: It’s needed for life, but it will also help you calm down and mentally prepare before being photographed.

  • Practice Great Posture: Shoulders always back. Keep your chin OUT and DOWN.

  • Smile Genuinely: A forced smile can look stiff. Think of a happy memory or someone you love to bring out a natural, radiant smile.

Step 2. Flattering Angles for Every Bride

Turn Slightly: Avoid facing the camera directly. Instead, turn your body slightly to the side for a more flattering silhouette.

  1. Tilt Your Head: A slight tilt of the head can soften your look and highlight your best features.

  2. Hands and Arms: Keep them relaxed. Avoid pressing your arms against your body, which can create unflattering lines. Instead, create soft, natural curves by placing your hands on your waist or holding your bouquet loosely.

Sitting Down

Fun Fact: This photo was featured in two magazines.

Explore sitting near window light for a timeless look.

Step 3: Master the perfect pose

Posing can make or break a photo, but it doesn't have to be complicated. Here are some simple yet effective tips:

  • The “S” Curve: Create a soft "S" shape with your body by shifting your weight onto one leg, slightly bending the other, and tilting your hip. This pose creates an elegant, feminine silhouette.

  • The Gentle Touch: Lightly rest your hand on your partner’s arm or shoulder. This adds a touch of intimacy and connection.

  • Natural Movement: Incorporate gentle movements like walking hand-in-hand or twirling in your dress. These candid moments can create some of the most memorable shots.

***Reminder: I’ve grouped these all together, for you to save, at the bottom of this page.

Getting Ready

Makeup photos are only the beginning. If you’re comfortable with it, ask your photographer for a mini-boudoir shoot that will surely wow your spouse when the pics are returned.

The Details

A moment for the shoes.

If you love these, ask your photographer to treat them like ad shots, so you get a more luxurious look.

The Groomsmen

I like to have the bridal party spread out; it creates stunning scenes that my couples love to display on their walls.

The Bridesmaids

For the ladies, I recommend bringing everyone in close, touching cheek to cheek and ear to ear. Once you have that down, play with posing together in ways that aren’t as uniform as traditional posing.

Experiment with diverse posing that isn’t as uniform.

Serious faces are stunning, but don’t forget to ask plan for some fun individual photos. My couples love these for their photo album.

  • "If there’s one thing I wasn’t worried about on my wedding day, it was the photography."

  • "I chose Jansen over 11 other photographers and it was the best decision we made for our wedding."

  • "I wanted my bridal photos to look like I’m modeling for a wedding gown ad.”

  • “I really didn’t want weird greens or muted flat colors like everyone else has.”

  • "We liked his personality. He was straightforward and made us feel confident."

  • "Jansen and his team came highly recommended by our wedding planner."

  • “He did my friends wedding and I liked how he took the time to fix my hair and pose each bridesmaid.”

  • "I booked someone else and hated my engagements. Lost my deposit, but soooo glad now looking back."

Photo Shoot After Dark

Don’t stop at sunset, have your photographer whisk you away for a short photoshoot featuring your venue at night. Bonus points if there is fireworks!

Below, I captured the couple near a window, sitting down at night, blending several of the tips we've discussed for a truly special array of photos.

Reception

For me, a great reception includes delicious food, lively music, and fun games. Don’t hesitate to plan a theme and even incorporate some props!

I actually found these hats in a backroom near the kitchen of this resort in Cabo. I asked to borrow them and the guys had this great idea for the pose.

Below, I’ve added all of these poses to 3 sheets for you to simply hold down and save to your phone’s camera roll!
